History
The welcoming and homely Wantirna and Wantirna South maintain a delightful balance between the old and new. Not only are there character-rich homes, but the ever-increasing entertainment and lifestyle developments further enhance the local area. As a result, Wantirna is an area that truly shines.

Bushy Park, one of the first cattle runs established in the district, was established in 1841 on the road connecting Melbourne and the Dandenongs. During the 1890s, the area experienced a growing population and orchards were established. The railroad line between Ringwood and Upper Ferntree Gully was opened in 1889, and one of its original stations was Bayswater. In that year, the Wantirna area was named Bayswater West. In that year, the Wantirna area was named Bayswater West.

Bayswater West Progressive Association sought an original name for the community and chose Wantirna in 1913, a word from the Aboriginal language that is thought to mean gurgling stream'.

Bicyclists and pedestrians can enjoy the Blind Creek Trail from the Dandenong Creek Trail in Wantirna South all the way to the Ringwood - Belgrave Rail Trail in Boronia, following the Blind Creek. This track is connected to a number of local amenities, parklands, train stations (Bayswater Train Station) and shopping centres (including Eastland).

This large recreational reserve in Wantirna forms part of the Dandenong Valley Parklands. Bound by Dandenong Creek, Boronia Road, EastLink, Mountain Highway, and Burwood Highway, Koomba Park covers 92 hectares, of which 33 are publicly accessible.

Wantirna and Wantirna South are also home to a large number of recreational facilities. These include the State Basketball Centre, Knox Regional Sports Center, and many other sporting reserves.
Schools

Transport and Infrastructure

Roughly 30 kilometres from Melbournes CBD, residents of the suburb have easy access to Melbourne's CBD, Mornington Peninsula and Dandenong Ranges thanks to Eastlink and other major roads. Wantirna is served by four main roads: the Burwood Highway, Mountain Highway, Stud Road, and Boronia Road.

Those who are looking for a public transport link to the city are fortunate to find a number of bus stops along Burwood Highway, Stud Street, and Boronia Road, as well as Westfield Knox's central bus hub that provides direct connections to Mitcham and Glen Waverley train stations.
